RCB acronym as Royal Challengers Bangalore is based in Bangalore and owned by United Spirits and named once the company’s liquor brand Royal Challenge, is a franchise cricket team based in Bangalore, Karnataka, that plays within the Indian Premier League (IPL).The team has contended its home matches at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium since its beginning.

Being one of the most favourite franchises in Indian Premier League since the inaugural edition, Royal Chellengers Bangalore are yet to win an IPL title to their name. Since 2011 the team has been captained by Indian skipper Virat Kohli and despite the large names in the squad, the team has twice finished as the bottom-ranked side in 2017 and 2019 editions and also 6th in the points table in the 2018 season, and 7th in 2014 season.between 2009 and 2016 the team has crowned  runners-up on three occasions.

They gained the tag of “ underachievers” because of  their lack of success over the years despite the presence of various notable players.The team holds the records of both the very best and also the lowest totals in the IPL – 263/5 and 49 respectively.


RCB will be directed by India captain Virat Kohli, the team has recently released its new logo and jersey, boasts of some of the best T20 players and fans would expect an improved show from their favourite stars this year.On 14 February RCB revealed their new logo for the team featuring a lion.

The RCB has been to tried to win  the IPL title in the 2009, 2011 and 2016 seasons but they failed to win the final all 3 times and were runners up. The team will continue to have Shivam Dube , who is a all-rounder and made his India debut last year and is one of the X-factors in the side. However the top-order is favoured with Aaron Finch, Kohli and de Villiers.Navdeep Saini, Dale Steyn are the solid pace-attackers of the RCB team.Kane Richardson has exit the team due to personal reasons and leg spinner Adam Zampa will take his place.

It would be a sink or swim season for the IPL ‘underachievers’ and their real chance to do something.ViratKohli will continue to be  the captain of the RCB side and the team will also continue to enjoy the services of retired South African international palyers AB de Villiers and Dale Steyn.

RCB went on to buy 8 players and paid a hefty 10 crores for South Africa’s Chris Morris in the IPL 2020 auctions, held in Kolkata. The other 7 players include: Aaron Finch, Joshua Phillipe, Kane Richardson, Pavan Deshpande, Dale Steyn, Shahbaz Ahmed, Isuru Udana.

RCB has released their players Before the start of 2020 IPL: Akshdeep Nath, Colin de Grandhomme, Dale Steyn, Heinrich Klassen, Himmat Singh, Kulwant Khejroliya, Marcus Stoinis, Milind Kumar, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Prayas Ray Barman, Shimron Hetmyer, Tim Southee. During the IPL auction, they added Aaron Finch (4.4 crore), Chris Morris (10 crore), Joshua Philippe (20 lakh), Kane Richardson (4 crore), Pavan Deshpande (20 lakh), Dale Steyn (2 crore), Shahbaz Ahamad (20 lakh), Isuru Udana (50 lakh).

IPL 2020 Auctions:

During the auction, which was held on December 19 last year,it seemed like the Royal Challengers top-brass had not come prepared, as they were trying to sign  new players. The franchise had released 11 players ahead of the auctionso they had a full chance to make it big at the auctions but, instead, they poured all their money into hiring Chris Morris and Australia’s limited-overs captain Aaron Finch.

“Jeetenge Hum Shaan Se” was the theme song of the team for the 2008 season.For the 2009 season the team anthem, “Game for More” was created. The music was composed by Amit Trivedi and written by Anshu Sharma.for the 2013 seasonA new anthem, “Here We Go The Royal Challengers” was created and was used till 2015. The anthem “Play Bold” was composed by Salim–Sulaiman, sung by Siddharth Basrur and was released in 2016 during the launch of jerseys for the season. The same anthem was recomposed for 2017 and sung by AnandBhaskar in 6 languages – English, Kannada, Telugu, Bengali, Marathi and Punjabi

He plays in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Royal Challengers Bangalore and he has continued to be the captain since 2013. He has been the top-ranked ODI batsman in the world since October 2017, and is currently 2nd in Test rankings with 886 points. Kohli has the best ever Test rating (937 points), ODI rating (911 points) and T20I rating (897 points) Among Indian batsmen, Ever since the beginning of the IPL The RCB skipper has been there with the team and is the heartbeat of this team. Virat Kohli is the highest run-scorer IPL with 5412 runs from 177 matches at a great strike rate of 132 and an average of 38 in the history of the IPL.He had an unbelievable season back in 2016 where he amassed 973 runs and scored 4 centuries.

Ab de Villiers

A South African cricketer, one of RCB’s most consistent performers over the years, Abraham Benjamin de Villiers. He is an attacking batsman In limited overs cricket.During his 15-year international career he was named as the ICC ODI Player of the Year three times. At the end of 2019 his name was also featured in Wisden Cricketers of the Decade. De Villiers has scored 4935 runs in 154 IPL games at a brilliant average of 40 and a very high strike rate of 152 with 3 centuries and 33 half-centuries to his name.He has conquered over 8,000 runs in Tests including 22 centuries and 46 fifties. in November 2008.

Moeen Ali

Moeen Ali, An English cricketer of Pakistani descent. He is all-rounder for his franchise.He is someone to watch out for , with both bat and ball after having been picked for the 2015 World Cup. He has the most inventive championship season in 2013, scoring a massive 1,375 runs in 17 First-Class games, which included four tons and eight fifties. . His bowling was equally marvellous as he gathered 31 wickets.

Kane Richardson

An young promising fast bowler of Australia , Kane Richardson who can bowl fast  and get the ball to move around. South Australia ,where he was born and he represents the same.For the 2009/10 Under-19 World Cup he was part of Australia’s squad,which also comprised Mitchell Marsh, Josh Hazlewood, NicMaddinson and Alister McDermott. He is a proficient batsman, a skilled bowler  and an athletic fielder. He is a right-arm fast-medium bowler too.


An Indian cricketer and former chess player who represents India in both One Day Internationals (ODIs) and Twenty 20 Internationals (T20Is). He has impressed both experts and fans alike on the international stage through his wrist spinning and when it comes to the IPL, He has been considered to be the most mortal bowling option for RCB. In Indian domestic cricket he plays for Haryana and in Indian Premier League for  Royal Challengers Bangalore.  He is a leg break bowler.

Mohammed Siraj

 A son of an auto-rickshaw driver, the fast bowler from Hyderabad who made headlines when his services were recognised by Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 2.60 cr. In 2015 he started playing leather ball cricket and within 2 years of domestic cricket, he was donning his country’s national colours. During Ranji Trophy season in the year 2016-17, he was recognised as highest wicket taker up of the Hyderabad with41 wickets from 9 matches, ending joint third highest wicket taker. He has a knack for taking wickets and that was apparent in debut IPL season, where he took 10 wickets from 6 games.

Aaron Finch

An Australian international cricketer, Aaron James who captains the Australian cricket team in limited overs cricket.Currently he is holding the record for two of the three highest individual scores in Twenty 20 Internationals (T20I), his score of 172 against Zimbabwe in July 2018 beating his previous record of 156 against England in 2013. During July 2018, he became the first player to reach 900 rating points on the official International Cricket Council (ICC) T20I rankings.He made his Test debut for Australia in October 2018.He is a great insertion to the RCB team and his presence will strengthen the middle order.

Washington Sundar

A mark of thanksgiving to his mentor, Sundar has named after PD Washington. He is a left Handed batsman and right arm off spinner. On 13 December 2017, he has played for India against Sri lanka and made his debut during T20I. Batting for Tamil Nadu against Tripura in the 2017–18 Ranji Trophy, he scored his maiden first-class century. He was also selected for the India U-19 world cup in 2016.
